Luanda, – The Angolan Ministry of Social Communication (MCS) has pledged to work with a view to making the companies in the sector increasingly public and less depended on government.
This was announced Thursday in Luanda by the incumbent minister of the sector , João Melo at the closing ceremony of the International Conference on the Challenges of the Angolan Media.
The minister said that the government intends to launch this strategy in a gradual manner.
According to the official, this is one of the main challenges of the sector for the coming times, which is already undergoing a process of deep reforms in the management and improvement of content.
João Melo announced a comprehensive reform programme that will cover, among other measures, the separation of content directorates from the organs’ administrations.
The event was sponsored by Ministry of Social Communication and gathered the professionals from Angola (host), Portugal, Brazil, Cabo Verde, the United States and the UK.
The meeting focused on four panels: Communication, Democracy and Regulation; Social Networks: Factor or Threat to Democracy; International Experiences in the Field of Public Press, and How to Promote Private, Local and Community Press.
