Luanda, 29 April (Angop) – Angola’s Ministry of Youth and Sports (MINJUD) has congratulated the U-17 football team on winning the bronze medal of the Africa Cup of the Nations (AFCON) held in Tanzania.

Angola beat Nigeria 2-1 on Saturday in the last match of the AFCON.

In its note reached ANGOP on Sunday, MINJUD congratulates the young footballers, the staff and technical team who honored and raised the name of the country in that African competition.

Angola beat Nigeria after the country lost to the same opponent 0-1 in the group stage.

Angola have ever achieved the best ranking at the level of this category in football. In 2017 Angola ranked last in Gabon

Cameroon won the competition after defeating Guinea Conakry 5-3 in the penalty shoot out, following a 90-minute goalless draw game.

Angola, Nigeria, Cameroon and Guinea-Conakry have qualified for the World Cup of Brazil from 14 June – 7 July this year.
