President Bio and President Geingos of Namibia speak on Strengthening Bilateral Relations

(SLENA, 13th December, 2022). President Julius Maada Bio and his counterpart, President of the Republic of Namibia – HE Dr. Hage Gottfried Geingos have assured strong bilateral ties for each other’s nation.
His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio enlightened that Sierra Leone and Namibia have worked together in many areas not limited to global-regional peace and security and sustainable goals. By extension, President Bio admitted that Sierra Leone has supported Namibia’s candidacy in the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
President Bio narrated that both countries have worked closely as members of the Committee of 10 African Heads of State on the Reform of the UN Security Council, amongst other diplomatic relations.
His Excellency recalled where he stated amongst others that in 1980, Sierra Leone hosted the Organization of Africa Unity (OAU) Conference and in attendance was Namibia’s first President, Sam Nujoma.
President Bio maintained that in March 1990 a delegation from Sierra Leone led by Hon. Egerton T. Kamara had a bilateral meeting with President Sam Nujoma on an occasion that marked the Independence of Namibia and he went further reveal that Sierra Leone was a relief ground for many Namibians during their country’s colonial struggle.
“For, example, through United Nations facilitated refugee support, our country played host to many Namibians to enable them pursue secondary school and university education,” President Bio added.
The President disclosed that SaaraKuugongelwa-Amadhila who is the current Premiere of Namibia, did her secondary school education at the Koidu Girls’ Secondary School in Freetown.
HE President Bio assured that both countries remain committed to fighting poverty and corruption and also committed in the eradication of gender-based violence in the quest of making both nations a safe haven for women and girls.
On his part, HE Dr. Hage Gottfried Geingos showed gratitude to the President and people of Sierra Leone for the reception accorded him and his wife whereby, admitting to being very proud for visiting the country.
He went on to state that Sierra Leone and Namibia share similar natural resources ranging from mining and agriculture and thereby assuring his country’s diplomatic commitments to Sierra Leone.
HE Dr. Geingos admitted that Namibian students have studied in Sierra Leone during Namibia’s struggle and some of these students over the years have attained ministerial positions in Namibia.
President Geingos disclosed that he once carried a Sierra Leonean passport and thereby stating further that someday, he wished to renew his citizenship with Sierra Leone.
