Accra, June 29, GNA- Sanford Health in collaboration with Samaritan’s Feet as part of its corporate social responsibility has distributed some 15,000 pairs of medicated shoes to children between the ages of five and 15 years within the Accra Metropolis.
Dubbed ‘Shoes of Hope’, the project is to provide a tangible foundation of hope and the opportunity for a better life for children of school going age and encourage them to focus in school and alleviate some of the financial burdens on families.
It would also protect their feet and decrease the possibility of getting a foot-borne disease.
“These shoes are specially designed to prevent infections that are transmitted through contaminated soil which is common among children’’, says the Vice President of Sanford World Clinic.” Dr Kwaku Sapon Darkwa.
According to the team, the three-day distribution would be done in phases and would involve schools selected from the Greater Accra Region.
He said 5000 pairs of the shoes were given out during the first phase to beneficiaries including; Great Child Academy , Gbestile in the Ashaiman Municipality, Peace Clinic – Ashale Botwe in the Adentan Municipality and La Nkwantanang Cluster of Schools within the Madina Municipality.
This, they hoped to replicate in other regions at the next phase of the Shoes of hope project.
“We will be happy to partner the media so together we can bring hope to these children. Our doors are therefore opened on further engagements and discussions on the plans and modalities relating to the project, “Dr. Darkwa added.”
