Accra, Feb. 11, GNA – The Forum of Public Sector Registered Pension Schemes on Monday expressed concern over the computation of past credits and gave the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) up to February 28 to implement the agreed computation.
The Forum said it was not happy about SSNIT’s own method of computation of past credits, which members had complained about.
This was in a statement signed by Mr Isaac Bampoe Addo, the Executive Secretary, Civil And Local Government Staff Association, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday.
It said the Forum was poised to taking subsequent steps to get the realistic past credits paid to all its retirees.
The statement said after the Pension Law had determined the computation of past credits it was logical to hold a stakeholders meeting to address pertinent concerns.
»In ensuing discussions among stakeholders – the National Pension Regulatory Authority (NPRA), SSNIT, FORUM and the Ministry of Finance (MoF) as well as Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), SSNIT pleaded to keep the past credits for beneficiaries as immediate transfer of these funds could collapse the SSNIT Scheme, » it said.
It said upon these assertions, all stakeholders agreed on terms and conditions that should inform the computation and payment of past credits to beneficiaries on retirement.
The statement said the Forum had patiently waited for the implementation of the agreement since October 2017 but the refusal by SSNIT to apply the agreed terms of calculating the past credits was very disturbing.
»SSNIT was expected to apply these terms and conditions in calculating and paying the past credits…the FORUM is currently bombarded with complaints of very low past credits paid to our retiring members as a result of the continued use of SSNIT’s own method of computation of past credits. »
Other members forum who signed the statement were Mr Eric Angel Carbonu, National Association Of Graduate Teachers; Dr Kwaku Asante-Krobea, President, Ghana Registered Nurses And Midwives’ Association; Mr K. Ahenakwa-Quarshie, Ghana National Association Of Teachers; Mr Alex Nartey, President, Judicial Service Staff Association; and Mr Nathan Coompson, Government Hospital Pharmacists’ Association.
The rest were Mr Franklin .O. Ansah, Health Services Workers Union; Mr Peter K. Lumor, Chairman, Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union; Mr Frederick Kporxah, National Vice Secretary, Ghana Association Of Certified Registered Anesthetists; Mr King Ali Awudu, Coalition Of Concerned Teachers, Ghana; and Mr Emmanuel Appiah, President, Ghana Physician Assistants’ Association.
