Opanka The underrated rap gem

  19 Mars      72        Arts & Cultures (3089),

Accra, March 19, GNA – Ghana has produced some rap greats, over the past years, but there’s one particular rapper whose style is unique and continue to thrill fans with some good rhyming and tunes over the past decade.

Affum Armstrong is his name, but known in the music circles as « Dadie Opanka ».
Dadie Opanka, emerged on the music limelight in 2009, when he did a refix of Bradez  »Simple » and has since produced some ground breaking hits, which includes  »Taste »,  »Wedding Car »,  »Born Again »,,  »Sure » his latest hits among many other mix tapes.
Dadie Opanka, has worked hard over the past years, by being consistent in the music circles and deserves commendation considering his hard work and lyrical prowess, which has been mimicked by many over the past years.
However, it is shocking, why he has not headlined major musical shows in the country and has been left on the ‘fringes’ of showbiz considering his flawless stagecraft.
Opanka, has made significant strides in his music endeavours regardless of the few setback in his music career having mounted big stages, which had top international acts like T Pain, Mavado, among others perform on the same stage.
Opanka, undoubtedly one of Ghana’s finest performers and rappers and should be rubbing shoulders with the likes Sarkodie and Yaa Pono on the big stages but however comes as a shock how is being sidelined even when it comes to big shows and awards.
Nonetheless, he has done major collaboration with top Ghanaian acts over the past years. He featured on Kwaw Kese’s  »Popping », which won the 2012 Best Hip-hop Song of the year, but yet to win any individual honours at major awards in the country.
Opanka’s name is certainly out there but he’s certainly ‘underappreciated’ and deserves more recognition from the music entourage.
