Accra, July 22, GNA – Mr Kwamena Minta Nyarku, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) is set to go unopposed in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Cape Coast North Constituency.

His two contenders, Mr Emmanuel Valis Akyianu, son of Ghana’s former ambassador to Canada and Mr Prince Binney were unable to file their nomination forms at the close of filling on Friday July 19, 2019.

Mr Fred Kweku Appiah, Acting Secretary of the Cape Coast North Constituency who confirmed this to the media on Friday, said per the Party’s guidelines governing the elections, he would have to successfully go through the vetting process before he could be declared the Party’s candidate for the 2020 elections.

Speaking to the media after filing his nomination, Mr Nyarku expressed delight about the news that he was likely to go unopposed and called on the other candidates who failed to file their nominations to channel their resources to support him as the Party sought to re-capture the Cape Coast North seat in 2020.

The promising politician described himself as a unifying candidate, very accessible, easy to approach, selfless and strategic, capable of re-capturing the Cape Coast North seat for the NDC.

“I believe that the Party really trust that I can deliver, so in my bid to deliver, I will need the support of all Party members and I want to assure that this seat is coming to NDC,” he stated.

The Cape Coast North seat until 2016, was occupied by the former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Ebo Barton Oduro.
The NDC’s 2016 candidate, Kwabena Owusu Acheampong lost the seat to the NPP’s Mrs Babara Asher Ayisi.
Fully aware of the task ahead, Mr Nyarku said he would leave no stone unturned and implored all Party members in the Constituency to get involved and work hard for victory in 2020.

Mr Nyarku affectionately called Raga, is well known in Cape Coast and its environs, having been born, schooled, married and currently works in Cape Coast.

He attended Adisadel College, Komenda Training College in Komenda, University of Cape Coast, University of Leicester and the Chatered Institute of Marketing in the United Kingdom, and the University of Ghana Business School.
