MONROVIA, Jan. 20 (LINA) – Officials of Afrobarometer and national partner; Center for Democratic Governance (CDG), have paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) and revealed to officials their successful conduct of Round 8 of the survey.

The conference, which was referred to as a ‘Confidential Governmental Briefing,’ centered on disclosing outcomes of the survey which was conducted across the country.

Speaking during the occasion at the Ministry on Capitol Hill, the Project Manager of Afrobarometer Anglophone West Africa, Daniel Armah Attoh, stated that the survey was conducted in collaboration with the Center for Democratic Governance.

Attoh highlighted that the survey is intended to abreast the Government of how citizens are thinking about various issues in their country.

Also, Attoh emphasized that the goal of the survey is to give the public a voice in policy-making by providing high quality public opinion data to policymakers, policy advocates, and Civil Society Organizations, among others.

He said his organization is currently working in 35 African countries with regard to Round 8 of the institution’s survey.

The Afrobarometer official underscored that in all of their surveys, they work with national partners to conduct the surveys, citing that Round 8 of the Afrobarometer survey in Liberia was conducted by the Center for Democratic Governance.

Attoh also said the survey was conducted using the sample size of 1,200 respondents which, according to him, yields a margin of error of +/- 3% and stressed that such margin of error points at a 95% confidence level, noting that fieldwork for Round 8 in Liberia was conducted between October 19 and December 1, 2020.

He asserted that nationally, a representative sample of Liberians aged 18 or older were respondents randomly selected.

Attoh narrated that the sample is distributed across regions, states, provinces and urban/rural areas in proportion to their share in the national population.

He said every adult citizen aged 18 or older has an equal chance of being selected, stating that the standard questionnaire allows comparison across countries and overtime.

In remarks,, Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie lauded Afrobarometer and partner for the conduct of the survey and said the Government welcomes the report.

« Let me thank you again for the presentation of the report. We welcome the report as a Government, » the MICAT boss noted.

He assured officials of Afrobarometer and partner institution CDG that the Government will make sure that the key institutions reflected in the report have an insight of the issues reflected and move forward.

« These are indicators I’m sure will help to give us a full understanding of how our citizens think and what the Government needs to do to be engaged with them to better their livelihood, » the MICAT boss said.
