Laussane, Jan. 22, GNA – Ghana ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has been honoured by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) at the first ever AIPS Sports Media Awards, for his investigative piece on Ghana football that unearthed several corruption cases in Ghana football.
In a glittering ceremony, which was attended by some of the world’s high-profile names in the sports industry, top-notch journalists, Aremeyaw Anas received the ‘Investigative Reporting’ award for the bombshell report on African football corruption.
Anas, who attended the plush event APIS Sports Media Awards at Lausanne’s Beau-Rivage Palace, Laussane Switzerland, dedicated his personal success to the memory of the late Ahmed Hussein-Suale and all who fought to uncover the truth.
« I receive this award in honour of my colleague, Ahmed. I know he would have been here with me to receive this award if not for the unfortunate incident. But we will never surrender, because journalism is not a crime, » Anas said, after receiving his trophy.
Last year, in May, Hussein-Suale helped expose corruption in African football as a prominent member of Anas’ Tiger Eye Private Investigations team.
The revelations led to the resignation of the head of Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, after he was filmed accepting bribes.
Mr. Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who attended the ceremony as the guest of honour, condemned the recent killing of Ghanaian investigative reporter Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
Mr. Bach said, « the IOC was very sad to hear of the loss of Hussein-Suale, being murdered for exercising his profession ».
