Accra, Dec. 19, GNA – Mr Surajdeen Haadi, a Registered Community Health Nurse at the Kundugu Health Centre in the Wa East Constituency of the Upper West Region has been adjudged the 2020 overall National Best Nurse by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
The nurse, who has over nine years working experience in rural communities, contributed significantly to health care delivery in the Kundugu and other communities in the Upper West Region where he diligently serves the people of the Region despite all odds.
Mr Haadi took home a brand new saloon car which was sponsored by CalBank limited and a plaque at the dinner and awards night programme held in Accra by the GRNMA to climax the Association’s 60th Anniversary celebrations.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after receiving his award, the overall winner, who also received the best nurse award, in the Regional category, expressed gratitude to God for His mercies and support throughout his nine-year journey as a nurse.
“I also want to use this opportunity to urge my colleagues who are working in the villages to work hard, and with commitment, God will see them through,” he said.
According to him, in most of the rural communities he had over the years rendered services, there were no electricity, coupled with very poor road networks, adding that in spite of all the challenges, “We have to deliver health care services to the people.
“Currently, where I am working now, we have electricity, but no mobile telecommunication network. It is also several miles away from the next referral Centre. Sometimes transporting emergencies can take us about four hours,” he disclosed.
He thanked leadership of the GRNMA for the honour done to him, and said the ward would serve as motivation and encouragement for him to continue to render services to the best of his ability.
Mr Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, the President of the GRNMA who congratulated all award winners at the programme, reiterated that Mr Haadi had worked under very challenging situations in the Upper West Region.
She said in spite of all the challenges, he continued to stay in the rural community to serve the people of the Region, adding that the Association was proud of him and all nurses and midwives across the country, and further encouraged them to continue to put up their best in their fields of endeavour.
Mrs Ofori-Ampofo said the celebration was for all nurses and midwives across the country and wished members of the Association a Merry Christmas and prosperous New year in advance.
Nurses and midwives from across the traditional 10 Regions GRNMA also received awards and recognition for their outstanding performances and contributions to health care delivery in their facilities.
They included; Madam Enam Ama Mensah from the Volta Region, Madam Mary Senya Vandampuya, Greater Accra Region, Madam Theresa Crentsil, Central Region, Madam Juliana Owusu-Antwi, Western Region, Mr Surajdeen Haadi, Upper West Region.
The rest are Mr Isaac Gyamfi, Ashanti Region, Madam Linda Lartey, Brong Ahafo Region, Mrs Sylvia Phaphali Adzitey, Northern Region, Mr Wisdom Ayinbono Apusiga, Upper East Region and Madam Gyima Nti-Darkwah, Eastern Region.
They all took home citations of honour, and laptop computers.
