Ghana records 145 new COVID cases, active cases now 947
Accra, Nov. 06, GNA-Ghana has recorded 145 new COVID-19 active cases as of November 2, bringing the total count to 947 from 877 in the previous update on November 1, 2020.
The country, has over the past weeks seen a gradual rise in the number of active cases after enjoying a seeming fall to as low as 301 persons, reported in the early weeks of October 2020 by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) however, the numbers increased to 437 by the middle of the month, and have since been rising.
According to the GHS latest update on November 2, 2020, the country’s cumulative confirmed cases of COVID-19 stood at 48,788, out of which 47,251 had recovered and discharged, while deaths remained 320.
The update also explained that of the cumulative, 19,648 were from routine surveillance, 28,980 from enhanced contact tracing and 160 from international travellers, and that currently, there were 10 severe cases; four critical and two persons were on ventilators.
The total tests conducted so far by the country stood at 543,316, placing the positivity rate at 9.0 per cent.
The regional distribution of the current active cases of COVID-19 were as follows: Greater Accra:- 629, Bono:- 85, Ashanti:-30, Western:-33, Eastern:-19, Upper East:- 14, Western North:-nine, Ahafo:-nine, Volta:-four, Bono East three, Oti:-one, but the Upper West, northern and Savannah regions reported no active cases within the period under review.
The GHS has therefore reiterated its call on the public to observe all the COVID-19 safety protocols by staying at home when feeling unwell, maintaining social distancing in crowded areas, and ensuring regular washing of hands with soap under running water for at least 20 seconds.
Ghanaians have also been advised to politely observe the coughing and sneezing etiquettes by covering the mouth with a tissue, disposing the tissue in a closed bin afterwards and repeating the routine of handwashing.
The GHS further encourages all persons to wear their nose masks, particularly when leaving home, avoid touching the eye, nose and mouth, while ensuring the frequent cleaning and disinfection of objects or surfaces such as remote controls and doorknobs, while avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
