Insurgency: Maiduguri Teaching Hospital builds centre for trauma patients

Maiduguri, April 16, 2019 (NAN) The management of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) has begun the construction of an ultra-modern centre to care for persons affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast part of the country.

Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director (CMD) made this known while laying the foundation of the project on Tuesday in Maiduguri, North East Nigeria.

Ahidjo said that the centre was designed to accommodate about 130-bed; Accident and Emergency (AE), surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology units, among others.

Ahidjo said that the hospital management had also embarked on the construction of additional hostels for students of its School of Nursing and two blocks of four bedroom apartments for other students and personnel.

Besides, he said work would soon commence on a 150-bed capacity pediatrics and research centre in the hospital and commended the Federal Government for its support.
