Monrovia, May 1 (LINA) – The Clar Hope Foundation of First Lady Clar Marie Weah says it will conduct health media training for about 150 Liberian journalists in collaboration with Merck Foundation, a U.S.-based private charity.
The one-day knowledge-sharing and learning excursive staled for May 27, will focus on the international standard of reporting and media ethics for reporting sensitive issues like infertility in Liberia as well as on the African continent, according to the Clar Foundation.
The undertaking is part of the “More Than a Mother” initiative which aims to empower infertile women through access to information, education and health, an official of the institution said.
Also, the initiative is said to be a form of support to the government of Liberia in defining policies to enhance access to regulated, safe and effective fertility care and intervention to break the stigma around infertile women and raise awareness about infertility prevention and management.
The partners see the media as an essential element in the work to eradicate the stigma associated with infertility, thus, Merck Foundation is set to introduce the “More Than a Mother” Media Recognition Award at the training.
The award will be meant to recognize outstanding journalists or media institutions that would have contributed to enhancing the public understanding of infertility stigma, and trigger change of mind sets about the subject.
Other awards to be announced are the More Than a Mother Fashion and Film Awards as well as the Merck Diabetes Award, the Clar Hope Foundation said on social media.
