Patase (Ash), March 1, GNA – Private developers encroaching on the Patase M/A Primary School land have been ordered to put a stop to all forms of construction activities.
They should ensure that no worker, henceforth, steps on the said land for any activity whatsoever, because it was illegal.
“The land in question is the property of the School, therefore, no developer has the right to claim it,” Mr Samuel Pyne, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Kumasi.
The directive was given after officials of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Ministry of Education (MoE) visited the school, following an appeal by the Management that some individuals were trespassing on the government property.
A parcel of land in front of the school has been invaded by private developers to construct stores for commercial purposes, according to the authorities.
The encroachment is said to have been facilitated by one Akwasi Appiah, assembly member for Patase, but denied complicity in the case when contacted by newsmen.
Mr Pyne said the Assembly would see to it that all government lands meant for educational purposes in the metropolis were duly protected to serve their purpose.
“We cannot achieve our educational objectives, especially in the area of expanding facilities, without the availability of land,” the MCE noted and warned of dire consequences for individuals and organizations, who were bent on taking over school lands.
Ms Constance Agyei-Sarfo, Headteacher of the School, described the development as a nuisance, saying several notices and warnings to the trespassers to stop construction on the School property had not been heeded to.
