MONROVIA, May 18 (LINA) – “Today, I’m turning the love between the CDC and I into a wedlock,” Grand Kru Senator and President Pro Temp of the Liberian Senate, Albert Chie, told party enthusiasts on Friday in New Kru Town, during the primaries rally ahead of the Montserrado County Representative and Senatorial by-elections.
Sen. Chie said his relationship with the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change dates back to 2014 when he contested in Grand Kru where the party unanimously resolved not to field a candidate against him.
He recalled that it further supported his bid to become Pro-Temp of the Senate in 2017.
When he stepped to the high stage encircled by a mammoth crowd of partisans who flocked the D. Twe High School, Sen. Chief said: “I’m taking a vow now; the CDC and I are officially married to fulfill our obligations. »
He told supporters that while it is true that there are some economic challenges, the government is exploring remedial avenues.
He said the prevailing conditions were occasioned by factors such as the drop in the prices of primary export commodities – rubber, iron ore, timber, and diamond – starting as far back as 2013, merged with the outbreak of devastating Ebola crises and the fading out of the United Nations peacekeeping mission, UNMIL.
The lawmaker called for calm amongst Liberians.
As a signature of his political wedding, Sen. Chie presented a “brand new” 4×4 pickup truck to the CDC, the keys to the vehicle which President Weah later handed over to party chairman Mulbah Morlue.
No sooner had Chie retired from the stage, the master of ceremony announced that David Kortee, widely known as ‘Friend of Presidents’, took the microphone.
The former Unity Party partisan wasted no time but said he was formally joining the CDC because President Weah has convinced him beyond all doubts that nation-building is his goal.
He based his love of CDC on the “high level of tolerance, and respect for human rights that President Weah continues to champion, beating the records of most leaders in Africa.”
“Despite the many criticisms, there is no political prisoner under your leadership,” Kortee said in reference to the President flanked by his entourage at the charged rally.
In his parting comments, Kortee asked that CDC chairman Morlue to give him a membership form to fill (immediately) and said he would start to pay his dues as a member of the party.
He told his fellow “CDCians” that: “Don’t let anyone fool you. …Three years from now, you will see very great changes in this country. »
Apart from usually calling on various radio talk-shows, appreciating the development efforts of the Weah-led government, Kortee became familiar among CDCians when he undertook an initiative to erect in the Doe Community the statue of President Weah.
