Sunyani, Nov.16, GNA – The Sunyani main branches of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) have received commendations for relocating the two lorry stations at the Nana Bosoma Central Market.
A Ghana News Agency (GNA) market survey indicated that the relocation of the stations from the hub of the market had reduced human and vehicular congestions, and controlled rampant vehicle knockdowns experienced during market days.
Petty traders and market women at the central market, who gave the commendation however, expressed concern about stealing and burgling due to bad lighting system at the market, and appealed to city authorities to address the situation.
In a random interview with the GNA on Wednesday, the traders complained about high lorry fares, inadequate male and female sanitary facilities and appealed to the government and the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to do something about them.
Ama Sarpomaah, a petty trader said the relocation of the lorry stations had created enough space for the traders to do business.
Some buyers told the GNA they were now comfortable to explore and buy more produce from the central market.
According to them because of the congestion at the market, stealing was rampant and therefore commended the two transport Unions for the initiative.
Nana Kojo Ansah, a taxi driver lauded the situation at the market, saying it had facilitated easy human and vehicular movements.
