Praia, May 6 (Inforpress) – The president of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) said today that hand hygiene, besides being a habit promoting health, is one of the main weapons against COVID-19.

Maria da Luz Mendonça, who was speaking to Inforpress on World Hand Hygiene Day, which is observed today, May 5, stressed that the simple act of washing hands combats the COVID-19 virus.

“Hand washing is a simple act, but with enormous value for health, with regard to the transmission of microorganisms and decreased incidence of preventable infections,” he said.

Hand washing, according to Maria da Luz Mendonça, is of paramount importance for health professionals who must always be sanitized so as not to transmit microorganism from one patient to another.

The date is another day to raising awareness for health professionals as well as the general population, since the amount of microorganism can be found in the hands is “enormous”, she stated.
