Rabat, 26/03/2024 (MAP) – HM King Mohammed VI’s Initiative to promote access of Sahel States to the Atlantic Ocean serves African causes, particularly in the Sahel and Sahara region, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Peace and Tolerance in Mali, Mohamed Hamada Elansary, said Tuesday in Rabat.

This initiative will give new life to African causes, particularly in the Sahel region, which faces many economic and development challenges, Elansary told MAP during his participation in a conference on « The Royal Atlantic Initiative and the emergence of a new Africa: geopolitical, economic and strategic dimensions ».

All Royal Initiatives which concern the Sahel and Sahara region are ground-breaking initiatives with a human dimension whose primary aim is to serve the causes of the region’s people, Elansary, also a history researcher, said, highlighting the historical, spiritual and religious ties between Morocco and African countries, particularly the Sahel and Sahara region.

The president of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Peace and Tolerance in Mali talked about the « Common religious denominators between Morocco and Sahel countries » as part of this conference organized by the African Forum for Development and Geographical and Strategic Research and the Ibn Battuta Center for scientific and strategic studies and research, in partnership with the Faculty of Letters and Humanities of Rabat.

This conference, attended by presidents of think-tanks from Morocco and abroad and representatives of several national and international institutions, aims to highlight the results of the Royal Initiative Atlantic which aims to coordinate the efforts of African countries bordering the Atlantic Ocean within a unified institutional framework, to guarantee joint development and offer Sahel countries access to the Kingdom’s Atlantic coast.
