Cidade da Praia, July 16 (Inforpress) – The Mayor of Mosteiros, Carlos Fernandinho Teixeira, on Sunday called on the Government to transfer the agricultural properties belonging to State in Mosteiro to the tenants and the municipal public domain.
The Mayor’s appeal took place during the signing ceremony of the agreement for delegation of powers by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) to the municipalities of Mosteiros and Santa Catarina do Fogo, witnessed by the head of the Government, Ulisses Correia e Silva.
“The State of Cabo Verde has large agricultural properties in this municipality, such as Baleia, Matinho and Achada Igreja in Ribeira do Ilhéu, areas that can be more productive and more profitable in terms of agriculture,” said the mayor.
With regard to Matinho’s property, with the potential to introduce more coffee and fruit plants, inducing private landowners to do the same, Carlos Fernandinho argued, while according to Baleia ownership, it was salutary to grant it to the current tenants and with the obligation to proceed with the land registry, passing the landowners to pay the IUP instead of the rent.
