Beirut Explosion: Ghana consoles Lebanon
Accra, Aug 10, GNA – Ghana has consoled Lebanon over the chemical explosion that rocked the port of Beirut, on Tuesday, 4th August, leaving at least 154 people dead, over 5,000 injured and 300,000 rendered homeless.
Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Government and the People of Ghana, conveyed deep condolences to the Government and People of Lebanon on the tragic chemical explosion that rocked Beirut.
A statement issued by the Ministry, and copied to the Ghana News Agency said Madam Ayorkor Botchwey stated this on Monday, when she signed a book of condolence at the Embassy of Lebanon in Accra.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, the wounded and the displaced. May Allah be their comfort, and may the souls of the departed rest in peace.”
She noted that the Government of Ghana received with shock and sadness, news of the massive explosion at the port of Beirut, Lebanon, on Tuesday, 4th August, which reportedly left at least 154 people dead, 5,000 wounded and up to 300,000 displaced.
She said this disaster, happening at a time that the whole world was battling with the COVID-19 pandemic, was most unfortunate and, regrettably posed an even greater challenge for the Lebanese Government and people; adding that “Lebanon shall overcome this tragedy!”
