Bosomtwi taking steps to ensure proper environmental sanitation

By Florence Afriyie Mensah, GNA

Kuntenase (Ash), June 14, GNA – The Bosomtwe District Assembly is taking steps to gazette all its environmental bye-laws and ensure strict enforcement to promote good environmental sanitation in all communities in the District.
Mr. Joseph Kwasi Asuming, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said a taskforce would also be set up soon to ensure strict compliance of these bye-laws.
Speaking at a town hall meeting at Kuntenase, Mr Asuming said the Assembly was on the warpath to prevent indiscriminate dumping of refuse, open defecation,setting-up of structures and other projects in unauthorized places, among others.
The aim is to ensure clean communities devoid of disease outbreaks and promote the District as a first class tourist centre in the country.
The meeting was organized by the Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP), a Kumasi-based NGO, under its Ghana Strengthening Accountability Mechanisms (GSAM) project.
It was to brief the citizens on ongoing projects in the District and the challenges encountered in the course of implementing the projects.
Mr. Asuming implored the people to seek permission and approval from appropriate authorities before putting up buildings and other structures to avoid coming into conflict with the law.
He said the government was going to reconstruct the Ahinsan to Abono road to ease the burden commuters went through on that road.
Mr. Charles Sekyi, Executive Director for CEDEP, advised the people to part-take in such meetings to seek answers to some of the problems and development projects going on in their communities.
