The European Union (EU) through its bilateral ties with the Government and People of Sierra Leone on Wednesday 25th May 2022 donated vehicles, IT equipment and motorbikes worth billions of Leones to the Civil Service Reform Component of the Human Resources Management Office (HRMO) and the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The commissioning of the vehicles and motorbikes was held at the Civil Service Training College amidst a cross-section of civil servants, international community and the media.
In his keynotes message, Manuel Muller who is the EU Ambassador to Sierra Leone disclosed that the vehicles, IT equipment and motorbikes donated, worth Le8 billion Leones.
Ambassador Muller called on the beneficiary institutions to properly use and maintain the EU funded assets and thus contribute to what he referred to as a better equipped and high performing workforce.
The EU Ambassador reaffirms EU’s support to Sierra Leone and admitted on plans to reform and strengthens the capacities of PSC, HRMO and the Civil Service Training College.
H.E Muller commended the leadership of HRMO (Ansu S. Tucker) for the validation of what he described as a most relevant gender mainstreaming policy, M&E framework, amongst others.
By extension, Ambassador Muller extoled PSC under the leadership of K.O Bah and thus, pointed out that PSC’s partnership with HRMO in the direction of reviewing the public service policy and legislation is encouraging.
Ansu S. Tucker- who doubled as Director General HRMO and Imprest Administrator admitted that the donation is just an addition to what he described as series of programs supported by EU.
He further stated that the conceptualization of the idea for the EU support was not easy to come by as he admitted that EU support for the procurement of vehicles for all projects in the country requires a very strong justification.
DG Tucker disclosed that the technical team involved, worked very hard in convincing EU for the vehicles. He makes clear that the vehicles are tied to activities and therefore as an institution, he mentioned that there would be no more excuses to do their activities that include public service consultations on the Public Service Act, the Civil Service Code, outreach programs to all MDAs in the provinces.
As Imprest Administrator, he pointed out the challenges involved in coordinating and managing a project of such nature with 3 separate institutions. He assured EU that the monies invested in procuring the vehicles and other equipment will not go in vain.
