Gender Minister cut sod for work on Swedru town roads

Swedru, June 05, GNA- Mrs Cynthia Mamle Morrison, Minister of Gender, children and Social Protection on Wednesday broke grounds for work to commence on a 2. 5-kilometre Swedru Township roads for easy transportation of goods and services in the Municipality.
Three contractors are to execute the World Bank funded project to complete it on schedule of six months.
The roads would cover Osama lorry station to Esukwantsin, Egyabusua, Mahodwe Top Hills to Urban (B) Basic school, Swedru taxi rank and others.
She said the tarring of the roads was in fulfillment of President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s promise he made to the Chiefs and people of the town when he visited them in 2018.
Mrs Morrison who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West said apart from the 2.5 kilometer roads more roads would be constructed and tarred at Swedru to give the town the expected facelift.
The Gender Minister said the Minister of roads and Highways had awarded on contract the Swedru school of Business campus road to join Swedru/ Awutu Bawjiase trunk road and also Woraba Estate, a suburb of Agona Swedru road.
The Minister said selected roads at Agona Nyakrom and Upper and Lower Bobikuma would all be tarred.
Mrs Morrison said the Swedru River Akora bridge Project started by the National Democratic Congress government was repackaged and re-awarded on contract and work would begin soon.
The Minister said three bridges would be constructed at Old Swedru Sawmill, Swedru Post Office to Church of Pentecost Prayer centre at Nkubem and the other one at Swedru Sabo- Zongo to Mahodwe Palace.
Mr Kingsley Adjei Boahene, Chief Director at the Central Region Coordinating Council (RCC) on behalf of the Regional Minister, Mr Kwamena Duncan said three Municipalities in the region had received the funds from World Bank to undertake development projects.
The beneficiary Municipalities are; Agona West, Mfantseman West and Awutu Senya East (KASOA).
To ensure quality work and value for money, he said the RCC formed a Monitoring and Evaluation Team to supervise the progress of work.
Mr Boahene asked the Agona West Municipal Authority to ensure that persons who would be affected as a result of construction of the road were catered for to avoid protests.
Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) praised the people for their cooperation and understanding when project contractors and consultants met and briefed them.
She appealed to the contractors to work assiduously as the people were expecting them to complete the project on schedule.
