Katsina: Ministry trains VIOs on road traffic management

Katsina, Jan. 8, 2019 (NAN) The Katsina State Government has organised a sensitisation workshop for Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) on road traffic management and prevention, as part of efforts to reduce road accidents in the state.

The Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Mr Tasiu Dandagoro, said on Tuesday in Katsina North West Nigeria that the workshop would assist the VIOs towards better understanding of road traffic management in the state.

According to him, the workshop would also assist them in road networks in Nigeria and Vehicle Inspection Procedures, as well as simple mechanical knowledge in automobile.

« Other things they were expected to know were Road Traffic Regulations, Accident Reporting Formats and Road Traffic Act and Highway Code, » he said.

The commissioner further said that the Road Traffic Department in the ministry had also published a book on highway codes that would be useful to road traffic users.

« The book will be sold at N1, 000 per copy, » he said.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Hafizu Iliyasu, said that the workshop was timely, because it would assist to reduce accidents on highways.

He urged the participants to pay attention and participate actively in the exercise.
