Liberia: Civil Society Body Says Newspaper Report On Finance Ministry ‘Unrealistic’

  13 Décembre      55        Economie (21002), Médias (2835), Société (45140),

Monrovia, Dec. 13 (LINA) – The National Civil Society Network of Liberia says its attention has been drawn to a publication in the Front Page Africa Newspaper under the caption « The 2018 grades are in ».

In that report, the paper graded the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning as scoring a grade point of « F » for the year under review.

The National Civil Society Network of Liberia, however, describes the reportage against the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, particularly Mr. Samuel D. Tweah as unrealistic, blackmailing and counter-productive to the growth and development of the country.

« We see the Front Page Africa report as a sinister motive intended to defame the high-earned reputation of President George) Weah and the coalition led government evident by its countless reportage against the government since the inception of the administration, » th Network said in a statement issued in Monrovia on Wednesday.

It said the National Civil Society Network of Liberia vehemently rejects the grading against the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, particularly Minister Samuel D. Tweah.

The Network stressed that in the period of 11 months Minister Tweah has worked assiduously after inheriting a broken economy by attracting international attention from donor partners, including the World Bank, IMF, EU, among others of most recent, the Liberian government through the able leadership of Minister Tweah has received millions in grants from several donor partners.

The Network noted that this include the recent ratification of US$21.5 million for the electrification of several households in Monrovia and its environs, and the government has embarked on the pavement of various streets in and out of Monrovia, the regular payment of civil servants salary on time and the most recent signing of US$100 million loan agreement for the coastal highway project as remarkable achievements under the stewardship of Minister Tweah.

The National Civil Society Network believes that with these many gains it is unfortunate that the Front Page Africa Newspaper failed to realize, and blatantly decided to engage in blackmailing the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and the government at large.

« We see this negative reportage of publisher Rodney Sieh as unfair to the state, and are calling him to desist and put Liberia first, » the Network observed.
