PLEEBO, Aug. 19 (LINA) – Maryland County is expected to receive for the first time since the ascension to power of President George Manneh Weah the sum one hundred thousand United States dollars as portion of the County Development Fund.
In an interview with Tubman University Phoenix Radio recently, Maryland
County Superintendent George Prowd informed citizens “probably, if all works well, by next week, Maryland County will for the first time under my administration, be receiving their County Development Fund.”
“That is very important and that is why we’re here (on the radio),” he explained.
The Superintendent said he is using his visit to Monrovia to engage various government ministries and agencies in the interest of the county.
The County Development Fund is by law an annual budgetary support in the tone of US$200,000 per county, for important local development initiatives.
For a few years now, the funding has not been forthcoming, not just for Maryland but across the country, as a result of the economic decline the Weah-led government inherited.
With the Liberian economy now moving on a steady path to recovery, Superintendent Prowd disclosed that government remains committed to undertaking county development initiatives.
According to him, government through the Ministry of Finance and
Development Planning has made available half of the County Development
Fund, for which, he said, he is extremely grateful to the President Weah regime.
“When we receive the check, I will publish it, and then when we come to the county we’ll call a meeting to let our people know,” he said.
This, he believes, will enable local authorities to implement several development projects earmarked during June 2019 county council sitting and complete previous projects initiated by the past county administration.
