amale, July 29, GNA-Africa Centre for Human Rights and Sustainable Development (AfCHuRSD), a national human rights Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has held a day’s capacity building workshop for women in business in the Northern Region.
The event, held in collaboration with the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), was aimed at promoting economic empowerment for business women to help sustainably grow their businesses.
The event, also formed part of a collaborative project between AfCHuRSD and CHRI project known as Promoting Equal Rights and Economic Empowerment for Women and Girls in Ghana.
The project sought to create awareness on gender-based violence, promote women participation in leadership, and promote economic empowerment of women through capacity building training.
The event was organised with funding from the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana.
Participants at the event included; women engaged in businesses such as hair dressing, tailoring, food selling, among others.
Madam Bernice Naah, Chief Executive Officer for AfCHuRSD and CHRI, speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the workshop was to build the capacities of small scale business women to collaborate effectively with one other and provide opportunities for them to grow and sustain their businesses.
« We want to help these women form groups or strengthen their already existing groups and empower them to grow their businesses » She said.
She said management of some financial institutions such as Absa Bank and Opportunity International, were invited to educate and provide them with some business management skills and link them to the financial sector to help market their businesses and take advantage of other opportunities to access funding from financial institutions.
Mr Sebastian Musah, Business Relations Manager at Absa Bank in Tamale, advised the participants to adopt some business management skills such as taking records of their daily sales to track business progress, learn to plough back their profits as well as learn new and innovative business ideas and networking among others.
He encouraged them to open account and save with Absa Bank, saying the bank would ensure safety and security of their monies and give them the needed support to grow their businesses.
