Kwahu-Pepease (E/R), Nov. 29, GNA – Madam Franceen Nana Obeng, a philanthropist in North Carolina, USA, has donated books to the Pepease Presbyterian School to encourage reading among the children.
The books were donated through the initiative of Dr and Mrs William Ofori Ntim of Give Hope Global, a non-governmental organization, based in the USA.
Reverend Kennedy Twum-Berima, the Pepease District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, who presented the books on behalf of the couple, said quality education at the basic level was critical in shaping the academic performance of children, hence the need to inculcate in them the habit of reading.
He said it was, therefore, important that books, reading and learning materials were always made available and accessible to pupils.
That, he said, would help the pupils to improve upon their performances at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
He urged the teachers to motivate the pupils to make good use of the library to derive maximum benefit from the books.
Nana Oforiwaa Pokua II, the Queenmother of Kwahu Pepease, entreated the pupils to take advantage of the library and spend their leisure times reading to improve upon their vocabulary.
