Anambra govt. to establish Art, Craft Village

Awka, Jan. 17, 2019 (NAN) The Anambra Government says it will establish an Arts and Craft Village in a bid to improve the tourism sector of the state.

Mrs Sally Mbanefo, the Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism, who disclosed this in Awka, South East Nigeria on Thursday said plans were at an advanced stage.

« We desire the village now more than ever before, because of our quest to take tourism to the next level, » she said.

Mbanefo said the planned village would aid the state to add indigenous art works to the ministry’s portfolio and empower artists.

« Gov. Willie Obiano is a lover of arts and culture and he’s working toward improving the art sector of the state, which will help the preservation and growth of our culture.

« Anambra has many tourist sites at different locations in the state. Government is seriously developing and upgrading the various sites.

« The present administration has approved and built infrastructure around the Ogbaukwu Cave at Owerre Ezukala which now attracts more tourists.

« The state has also approved the construction of steps, railings and relaxation spots at the Ogbunike Cave, » she said.

Mbanefo added that Agulu Lake had been given a face-lift by the sighting of Golden Tulip Hotel with a 4-Hole Golf Course.

She said the state could currently compete with its counterparts all over the world in the tourism industry.

Mbanefo also revealed that cultural carnival would become an annual event to be bank rolled by the ministry.
