Coaltar (E/R), Nov. 15, GNA – A delegation from Lansing Sister Cities International in Michigan State, USA, has paid a visit to the Ayensuano District in the Eastern Region to familiarize and explore economic relations potentials in the District.
The visit formed part of efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between the Lansing Sister Cities and the Ayensuano District Assembly as well as collaborate in specific areas of interest to improve the livelihood of people in the area.
The Sister Cities International (SCI) is a non-profit citizen diplomacy network that creates and strengthens partnerships between communities in the United States and others in foreign countries.
The Ayensuano District Development Planning Officer, Mr Jerry John Atitso, who presented a profile of the District to the delegation, said the District have a land size of 499 square kilometres with an estimated population of 92,156 of which 45,294 were males representing 49 per cent and 46,862 being females representing 51 per cent.
He said the District had investment potentials in agriculture and crops that could be planted on a large scale for local consumption, export and industrial processing include cassava, pawpaw, citrus, oil palm and cocoa.
He said the area also has high deposit of granite and clay that could be use to produce tiles and ceramics. The Development Planning Officer said the District also had waterfalls, a stone cave and snake-liked palm tree that could be developed into tourism sites.
The Ayensuano District Chief Executive (DCE), Ms Florence Govina, said the District had a poor road network, inadequate and deplorable school buildings and inadequate access to health care facilities.
She assured that the Assembly was ready to cooperate and collaborate with the Lansing Sister Cities International to see how best to work together for the benefit of the Michgan and the Ayensuano District.
The President of Lansing Sister Cities International, Ms Barbara Roberts Mason who led the delegation promised to help connect the district with some of the colleges of higher learning in Michigan to enter into exchange programmes.
She assured of close collaborate of her organization with the District to see how best to offer the needed support.
