Sunyani, April 8, GNA – The Bono Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to assist in re-arresting a 24-year-old alleged armed robber who escaped on Monday night from the custody of the Sunyani Municipal Police Command.

Consequently, the Police have placed GhC5,000.00 on the suspect’s head as a reward to anyone with vital information to lead to his re-arrest.

Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that around 2300 hours, one of the inmates requested for water and the officer on duty, in attending to that inmate, the robber (Karim) hit him with the cell gate and managed to escape.

Chief Inspector Oppong said two police officers, a male, and a female, who were on duty, had been given 10 days to produce the alleged robber.

Suspect Karim, who had been on the police wanted list for about a year, was arrested on February 23, 2020, at his hideout at a hotel in Sunyani upon a tip-off.

Chief Inspector Oppong said the suspect had allegedly raped 11 female victims at their homes in Sunyani and its environs and also robbed them of their valuables and monies at either knife or gunpoint.

He appealed to anyone with information about Karim’s whereabouts to call the Police on cell phone number 0242325357.
