(SLENA, 5th October, 2021). The West African Road Safety Organisation has its vision to promote and reinforce road safety in West Africa. This is the third time Sierra Leone is hosting the WARSO activities. Sierra Leone previously hosted the conference in 2010 and 2014.
The West African Road Safety Organisation emerged from the defunct Groupes des Pays African de la Prevention Routiére Internationale (GPA-PRI) created in 1985 in Lisbon with members drawn from some countries in Africa. GPA-PRI is an African adaptation of La Prevention Routiére Internationale (PRI), an International Road Safety body with members spread across the globe. However in the early nineties, effective management and co-ordination of the Organisation became difficult as meetings were seldom held. This among others was due to the large and heterogeneous nature of the area of coverage (Africa). Consequently the need for a purely West African Organisation was given a thought leading to the formation of an ad-hoc committee in 2004 to chart a course for its creation.
The Minister of Information and Communications Honorable Mohamed Rahman Swaray delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Honorable Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh.
