UCC matriculates Distance students in northern Ghana
Tamale, Dec. 28, GNA – The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has held a matriculation ceremony for the Northern Zone of its College of Distance Education (CoDE) students in Tamale for the 2019/2020 academic year.
The ceremony was an official platform to receive and admit students into different programmes under the CoDE, through swearing a matriculation oath.
They comprised fresh students from various learning centres in the Northern, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West and North East regions, who were enrolled for undergraduate and post graduate programmes.
Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, the Vice Chancellor of the UCC, in a speech read on his behalf by the UCC CoDE Provost, Prof. Isaac Galyuon, said 13,089 students were admitted into the University to pursue both undergraduate and post graduate courses through the CoDE in Education and Business.
He said 11,908 of them were undergraduate and 1,118 were postgraduate students consisting of 6,566 males and 6,523 females.
He said the admission statistics showed that there was massive improvement in female undergraduate admission this academic year.
Prof. Ghartey reiterated that the figures revealed gender parity was gaining ground in the UCC.
He said attaining an appreciable gender balance in admission of students into the school’s Distance Education programmes had significant socio-economic implications on families and society.
He, therefore, advised the students to adhere to rules and regulations, keep their learning centres tidy at all times and be constructive in balancing social life with academics.
The Vice Chancellor gave the assurance that the University was restructuring the College with new programmes and redesigning old ones to enable easy transfer of credits from distance mode to regular mode and vice versa.
He said the CoDE had introduced Junior High school, Primary School Education and Early Childhood Education programmes, in line with Ghana Education Service’s new curriculum.
