By Jerry Azanduna, GNA
Bawku (U/E), June 09, GNA – The Bawku Municipal Directorate of the Food and Agriculture Ministry, has started registering farmers in the area for the government’s flagship agricultural programme – ‘planting for food and jobs (PFJ)’.
Mr. Charles Akotiga, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, said this was to aid proper planning – to gather the necessary information for the supply of planting materials and other inputs.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), that trained extension officers were doing the registration in the various communities.
He encouraged farmers to register with the directorate to enable them to access farm inputs including subsidized fertilizers and quality seeds to boost crop yield and returns.
They should cooperate with the extension officers to ensure the success of the programme in the municipality.
The Directorate, he added, had taken delivery of maize and soya bean seeds and was ready to go.
The « PFJ » aims to boost food security, create wealth and jobs for the people.
