Nkranketewa, (B/R), Nov. 06, GNA – The Nkranketewa Africa Faith Primary School in the Sunyani West District has appealed for toilets and urinals to improve on sanitation situation in the school.
They also appealed to the government to capture them, to benefit from the School Feeding Programme.
Mr Elvis Boateng, the head teacher of the school told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview during a handing over ceremony of a class block that the school served five major communities and pupil’s population was fast growing.
Currently, he said the school contained more than 300 children who walked several kilometres to attend classes.
The sanitation situation, he said was very poor because the school had no toilets and urinals and needed borehole to provide potable water for the pupils and teachers.
Kinderhulp Ghana, a Netherland-based charitable organisation constructed the eight classroom blocks, at the cost of GH¢98,000.00 for the school.
The NGO established to support education and health in the district, in collaboration with its local partners, Heart for Children Foundation Ghana, furnished the school block with 150 dual desk, and teachers’ tables and chairs to facilitate serious academic work.
Mr Boateng said the school also required urgent teachers’ quarters, noting that all the teachers stayed at Nsoatre and due to the deplorable nature of the 20-kilometre Nsoatre-Nkranketewa road, many of the teachers were always late to late at school.
The situation, he explained worsened during rainy seasons as commercial vehicles failed to ply the road and make it extremely difficult for teachers who did not have motorbikes to attend classes.
Mr Boateng called on the Sunyani West District Assembly to reshape the road, and appealed to NGOs and philanthropists to come to the aid of the school.
