MONROVIA, Dec. 6 (LINA) – The Executive Directive for National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) says the University of Liberia (UL) has made significant improvements in actualizing its academic curriculum for the sciences.
Tolbert Nyenswah was delivering a keynote speech at the Fendell campus of the University during the 99th Commencement Convocation of the College of Science and Technology.
The college graduated 191 females and 195 male students, something the public health official described as « highly impressive, » making specific reference to the ‘encouraging’ number of females who earned undergraduate degrees in the sciences.
He observed that UL’s preparedness to promote education in Liberia, especially in the area of science and technology, can be measured in the institution’s ‘immense’ contribution to the overall manpower development of the country « by training great scientists, engineers, researchers, mathematicians and medical doctors who will place Liberia on the world map, particularly in the health sector. »
Nonetheless, the graduates were challenged by Nyenswah to see their accomplishments as preliminary, and therefore make further efforts towards gaining advanced knowledge in their field of study.
« Think ahead for higher education because education is the key to human success, » he said.
The state-owned university’s College of Science and Technology is said to be one of the higher institutions of learning that is making maximum contribution to the health sector through various means, including nursing.
The NPHIL boss hailed President George Weah for his farsightedness to prioritize education under his Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) which focuses on improving the lives of the Liberian people.
