MONROVIA, April 8 (LINA) – President George Manneh Weah has assured victims of the recent fire disaster in the Popo Beach community, New Kru Town that the government will reconstruct their homes within 60 days beginning Tuesday, April 9.

Last week Thursday, raging flames engulfed about 11 homes (zinc-shacks) in the Popo Beach community, leaving occupants completely homeless. No death was reported, but two people were reportedly injured during the incident.

But, President Weah, who paid a visit to the disaster site on Monday to sympathize with the over 30 victims, assured that within a few weeks they (fire victims) will have new and comfortable homes.

Weah promised that the Government will not construct zinc-shacks for the victims, adding that they will rather be provided with concrete and comfortable homes.

He also vowed to extend the reconstruction project to nearby homes that are surrounding the vicinity of the fire disaster, assuring that all those who live closer to where the fire outbreak occurred will also benefit.

President Weah noted that the betterment of the lives of all Liberians is his priority and that he will do everything possible to make Liberia a better home for all.

« I want my people to be satisfied that is why I am doing everything possible to get smiles on the faces of all Liberians and I will not stop the good thing that I have started, » Dr. Weah indicated.

President Weah also pleaded with other residents as well as victims of the mishap to help the government protect the building materials that will be bought to reconstruct the homes of the fire victims.

He wants the youths of the community to help the construction team to speed-up the building work to put a smile on the faces of their distresssed neighbors.
