Madina Divisional Police confirms assassination of investigative journalist

Accra, Jan. 17, GNA – The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Afriyie Sakyi, the Divisional Commander of the La Nkwantanang-Madina Division of the Ghana Police Service, has confirmed the death of Mr Ahmed Hussein-Saule, an investigative journalist.
Mr Hussein-Saule was assassinated on Wednesday night at Madina close to the Catholic Church.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, ACP Sakyi said the Madina Police had already made three visits to the scene of assassination and had assured the family of a thorough investigation into the matter.
He said the family members told the Police that the deceased was in a family gathering when a call came from a brother informing him of the ill-health of his elder brother’s daughter.
According to him, upon moving his vehicle towards the house to take the sick girl to the hospital, two unknown assailants, who were patrolling on a motorbike with a covered number plate, shot and killed the journalist.
Due to the concealment of the motorbike’s number plate, ACP Sakyi noted that the few individuals around the scene could not identify its registration number.
Information from the family indicated that not long after Hussein-Suale left the family gathering, they heard three gun shots, he said.
ACP Sakyi said a young boy rushed to them that their relative had been shot upon which they realised that it was their brother Ahmed.
He said the family rushed to the scene and took him to the Alpha Hospital in Madina, which later referred him to the Police Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The body had been deposited at the morgue.
So far no arrest has been made, ACP Sakyi said, and expressed the belief that thorough investigations would be carried out and ensure the culprits face the full rigours of the law.
Meanwhile, family and friends of the Investigative Journalist, who was a core member of the Tiger Eye PI, have called on government to ensure that justice was done.
In an interview with the media at the family house at Madina, Mr Musah Mukaz, a brother of the deceased, said: « All the family needs is justice in the case. »
