Bolgatanga, March 5, GNA – Public and Private Senior and Junior High Schools in the Bolgatanga Municipality on Tuesday intensified rehearsals in various forms of choreography to mark Ghana’s 62nd Independence Day Celebration in the Municipality.
When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Ramsey Sports Stadium at about 0800hours, students from different schools had lined up neatly dressed in their uniforms under supervision of their teachers for the final dress rehearsals for tomorrow’s celebration.
Notable among the schools were the Bolgatanga Technical Institute, Saint John’s Catholic Junior High, Sacred Heart Junior High, Fountain Gate International School, the Saint Charles Roman Catholic Primary, Methodist Junior High, Preparatory Junior High, and the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High Schools among others were on parade ready to display their marching skills.
Mr Timothy Allou, the Officer In Charge of Supervision at the Upper East Municipal Education Directorate who addressed teachers and students, said 23 Junior High, 25 Primary, eight Senior High Schools, four organizations including Zoomlion Ghana Limited would participate in the 62nd Independence Day Celebration.
He said certificates of merit would be given to deserving schools as part of activities to mark the day.
He said all schools were expected to present 30 students who must march together in uniform manner to grace the occasion.
Mr Allou urged teachers of participating schools to ensure that their schools matched with displayed banners and maintain discipline.
Mr James Awara, a Teacher at the Great Victory Academy in an interview with the GNA, said his students were well prepared and happy to be part of the rehearsal activities because it would offer them the opportunity to showcase their talents in various disciplines including marital arts and choreography.
He said they would play brass band, display their skills in martial arts and take part in the march pass to showcase to the world special talents from the region.
Mr Awara said it was important for Ghanaians to use March 6 to unite as one nation with common destiny to re-emphasis that Ghana was a peaceful and united nation.
This year’s Regional Parade which would be observed in the Bongo District, is expected to be graced by Madam Paulina Patience Abayage, the Upper East Regional Minister, the Bongo District Chief Executive, Security Services, Heads of Departments, traditional and religious leaders.
