(SLENA, 15th December, 2021). The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Professor David John Francis, has reaffirmed Sierra Leone Government’s commitment to support all efforts to eradicate terrorism in the ECOWAS region as well as maintain Security in the ECOWAS territorial waters.
The Minister made this statement at the ECOWAS Secretariat during the Eighty Seventh Ordinary Session of the Council of ministers in Abuja-Nigeria on December 10th, 2021.
He further said that the Government of Sierra Leone will continue to give full support to the efforts of the ECOWAS Commission in the handling of humanitarian situations especially in conflict areas.
Professor Francis also commended the efforts of the ECOWAS Commission and the Authority of Heads of State in trying to ensure Peace and Security in the region, especially in Guinea and Mali where Constitutional authorities have been overturned and he aligned Sierra Leone’s position with the ECOWAS position on the return to Constitutional order. He pointed out that this subject is particularly important to Sierra Leone considering the country’s proximity to the Republic of Guinea as a close neighbor.
