Commey is the highest ranked Ghanaian boxer in WBC

Accra, Aug. 8, GNA – Richard Commey, Ghana’s Lightweight boxer, is the highest ranked boxer in the latest ranking of the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Commey, is ranked the number four contender, according to the WBC, with Mikey Garcia as the champion for the category.

The Ghanaian, who is ranked number one, by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) is now ahead former IBF Champion Robert Easter Jr, who is ranked number six.

On the WBC ranking, is Yvan Mendy of France, who is number one contender, with Luke Campbell of Great Britain, whilst Jorge Linares of Venezuela is the number three contender.

With the latest development, Commey also stands the chance of climbing further in the ranking as the substantive champion, Garcia is contemplating moving up in weight, after defeating Easter Jr, to unify the WBC and IBF Lightweight titles.

The Ghanaian, who is in a good position to fight for the IBF title, later in the year, could also be vying for the WBC title as well.

Also on the ranking, is Frederick Lawson, who is ranked 15th in the Welterweight division, with his next opponent Thulani Mbenga from South Africa at the 14th position.

Another Ghanaian, Duke Micah, who holds the WBC International title, is ranked 15th in the Batamweight Division and is also highly tipped to climb further in the category.

Former International Boxing Organisation Champion Emmanuel Tagoe, is the lowest ranked Ghanaian boxer with the WBC.

Tagoe is ranked 29 in the Lightweight division and has been seeking to climb further in his bid to be come a world champion again, after he was stripped off his IBO title.
