Praia, Jun 3 (Inforpress) – Institutions dealing with the problem of children in Cabo Verde admits the possibility the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic increases the phenomenon of children on the street and child labour.
Speaking to Inforpress on the occasion of World Children’s Day, which is marked today, the president of the Association for Disadvantaged Children (Acrides), Lourença Tavares, said the pandemic is aggravating the situation of poverty in Cabo Verde and, consequently, the suffering of the most vulnerable children.
“This situation to not going to school, with increasing poverty we will have more children on the streets, more children suffering. And child labour will increase, globally, so we must be attentive and think of all Cabo Verdeans,” said the social activist.
Lourença Tavares defended, therefore, that everyone needs to be united and articulate and, above all, to put children in vulnerable situations at the center of actions.
