Police arrest Reverend Owusu Bempah and three others

Accra, Sept.13, GNA—Police on Sunday arrested Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, Head Pastor of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International and three other members of his church for attacking police officers in his church premises.

The other three: are Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene and Nathaniel Agyekum.

Two others are on the run.

A statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, Acting Director-General, Public Affairs, said the suspects were being detained for further investigations over the creation and circulation of multiple videos containing threats, the brandishing of a weapon and the assault of some police personnel.

It said after critically analysing the said videos and based on intelligence gathered, the Police embarked on an operation on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the premises of the Church to arrest the suspects.

The statement said during the operation, some members of the Church, believed to have been under the direction of Reverend Bempah, assaulted some police officers.

The injured personnel have received medical treatment and are responding to treatment, the statement said.

It said the suspects were in custody and would appear before court today, Monday, September 13, 2021.

The statement cautioned the public against any acts that would disturb the peace of the country.

It assured citizens that impartial investigations shall continue into the matter and the public would be duly updated on further developments.
