Kumasi, June 21, GNA – Government had been impressed upon to speed up the processes on the proposed reforms in football administration in the country.

It should also open up for broader stakeholder consultation on the reforms in order to bring on board the views of all and sundry to ensure sustainable growth and development of the sport.

Nana Okofo Gyeabour, Spokesperson for the Women Club Owners Association of Ghana, addressing a press conference in Kumasi, said the earlier this was done the better it would enhance the living conditions of all whose livelihood was dependent on football.

« Many of our professional players deriving their income from football are currently at home doing nothing due to the ban on football activities.

We think it is about time the welfare of those players was taken into consideration by facilitating the proposed reforms for their benefit », Nana Gyeabour stated.

An Accra High Court recently granted the Attorney-General’s request to place an injunction on all football activities in the country.

This is to enable the police to probe the latest scandal that had rocked football in the country after several top officials were caught in an expose by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

A video released by the renowned investigative journalist saw countless officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) involved in alleged corrupt practices, a development contrary to football ethics.

Nana Gyeabour said the government should be mindful of the fact that stripping Ghana of the rights to host the 2018 Africa Women’s Championship because of the current row in football in the country, could come with its own diverse consequences for all stakeholders.

This, he said, could be a big blow to women professional footballers who had been preparing all this while for the tournament.

The petition comes in the wake of a visit to Ghana by a three-member committee from the world’s football governing body, FIFA, to meet the government on the possibility of resolving the current football crisis.
