Accra, Feb. 22, GNA – The decision by government to begin a COVID-19 vaccination in Ghana, next month, is good news, the Reverend Thomas Henry Quamson of the Assemblies of God Church, has said.
He said that would help keep citizens protected from the virus, which had negatively affected nations and changed cultures.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Rev. Quamson, the Senior Pastor of the Holy Ghost Worship Centre, Ashaiman, said it would help bring life to normal and save more people, who could succumb to the virus.
“Most people have lost their loved ones since the outbreak of the pandemic at the latter part of 2019, » he said.
Regardless of conspiracies and myths surrounding the vaccination, he expressed the conviction that the exercise was the way to go to fight the virus.
He advised government to be guided by expert advice to procure the best vaccine and increase public education on it.
Mr Raphael Gyabeng, a Physician Assistant at the Korle-Bu Polyclinic, and member of the Church, said the Covid-19 vaccination was not different from the approaches used in fighting other viral diseases.
« This vaccine is not different from the approaches used in fighting other outbreaks or viral diseases such as Polio, Hepatitis B, and yellow fever, » he said.
Mr Gyabeng said the vaccine would boost the immune system of persons, reduce the work load on front line workers and save more lives.
« It would help cut cost in the fight against the Covid-19 and reduce long term financial pressure on the national purse. »
He debunked speculations on social media about the side effects of the vaccine, saying it went through stringent process before approval, hence not life threatening.
