Agriculture Director advises farmers to partner with processing companies

Sunyani, Nov. 16, GNA- Mr. John Ofosu Dankyira, the Sunyani Municipal Director of Agriculture, has advised commercial farmers to identify and partner with local processing companies for the processing of their agricultural produce.
Food processing, he explained remained a major component in the agricultural value chain, as it added value to crops, minimise post harvest losses and fetched good market for agricultural products.
Mr. Dankyira gave the advice at a training workshop organised by E. K. A. Food Processing Limited for agricultural students of the Sunyani Technical University on Wednesday in Sunyani.
Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF), an anti-corruption media advocacy non-governmental organisation in collaboration with the International Fertilizer Development Centre (IFDC) sponsored the workshop.
It was aimed at enlightening the participants on key components of processing, and importance of value addition in the agricultural value chain sector.
Mr. Dankyira observed that the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs (PfFJs) Programme, had made useful outcome because « there is abundance of food everywhere ».
He commended beneficiary farmers for religiously adhering to the objectives of the Programme and advised the teeming unemployed youth to register and benefit as well.
Mr. Elijah Kwame Adjei, the Managing Director of E.K.A Foods Processing Limited, advised the students to be innovative, explore and develop their potentials to assist in modernizing the nation’s agriculture.
He said his company had been earmarked to benefit from the One District One factory (1D1F) Programme and urged the students to engage the Company for the acquisition of practical skills.
