ACCRA, May 26, GNA-The Zuarungu Health Centre in the Bolgatanga East District, Upper East Region, remains focused on ensuring that efficient services are delivered to the people amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
All maternal health care cases and routine services are being carried out without any interruption, Mr Eugene Osei Yeboah, the Bolgatanga East District Director of Health Services of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has said.
“ We believe that if we do not take care, we might lose focus in rendering key services related to maternal health and child care services amid the Pandemic”, he added.
The District Director of Health Services said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Zuarungu, when the Agency observed that most health service facilities in the Region were virtually empty except a few clients, despite the presence of health staff constantly at the post to render service.
In response to the COVID- 19 situation, Mr Yeboah said his outfit was reaching out to women on reproductive health issues and child health services, and ensuring that the necessary antigens and maternal health packages were being provided to them to ensure they stayed safe.
Ms Estella Abazesi, the Talensi District Director of Health Services, confirmed that the number of patients visiting to access health services at the clinics had dwindled for fear of being exposed to the virus.
“Even though the District has not recorded any case of the disease, daily outpatient cases are low”, she added.
She said the District Health Centre had received tremendous support from the District Assembly and other organizations with Veronica Buckets, gloves, face masks, thermometers guns and alcohol-based hand sanitizers. To improve the situation of low turn- out at the clinics, she indicated that they were sensitizing the people who visited the health facilities, on COVID-19, mainly on how to stay safe even when they attended the clinic for medical treatment.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, patients in the Region with other health conditions are not seeking medical services for fear of being exposed to the disease.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s confirmed case count stands at 6,964 with 2,097 recoveries and 32 deaths while all the 26 confirmed cases except two that died in the Upper East Region, have recovered.
