Accra, June 11, GNA-The Suame Municipal Assembly has distributed more than five thousand nose masks to registered traders in the 10 major markets of the Municipality.
The masks given freely formed a component of protective items being distributed by the Assembly to the traders to enhance their safety as Ghana’s case count of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic keeps rising.
A total confirmed cases of 10, 358 and 48 deaths, were recorded as of Thursday, June 11, according to the Ghana Health Service’s portal on COVID-19, which also put the number of recoveries at 3, 824.
Dr. John Osei Bobie-Boahin, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), after the distribution exercise at Suame, said the Municipality had seen its confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus increased from five to 20, with 12 recoveries.
The situation, he stressed, had forced the Municipal Assembly to bring on board public health experts, security agencies and traditional authorities to enforce to the letter the COVID-19 preventive protocols.
“Our directive to managers of public places such as the markets, banking institutions, churches and mosques, is that they should not allow entry for those without nose masks,” Dr. Bobie-Boahin confirmed.
He warned that anybody who proved difficult in the enforcement of the laid-down regulations “must be made to face the full rigours of the law.”
The MCE said the Assembly had earlier presented Veronica buckets, liquid soap and tissue, and hand sanitizers to the traders and decentralized departments to be used for their safety.
