Chief commends International Needs for helping the rural poor

Kanuwloe (VR) Jan. 26, GNA— Torgbe Vudugah lll, Chief of Kanuwloe, a community in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, has commended International Needs Ghana, (INGH) for its interventions in the social life and education in rural Ghana.

He said almost all social intervention projects in his community in particular, including free medical care, women empowerment and also protecting their wards from child labour, child trafficking and child marriage had been initiated by the INGH.
According to the Chief, the INGH had provided six unit classroom blocks for the primary and 3 unit classroom blocks for the local JHS.

He added that office, store, teachers staff common room block, kitchen, washroom, library as well as computer laboratory had also been provided for the Kanuwloe D/A Global Basic School by the NGO.

« International Needs Ghana has always assisted our community in free medical care, women empowerment and also protecting our children from child labour, child trafficking and child marriage. »

He then called on the Government and the North Tongu District Assembly to aid the community with teachers’ accomodation and gravelling of the access road that linked the community to the main truck road.

« We are not asking for anything complex but something that can provide comfort for our dear teachers because as I speak today, two teachers share one room which does not provide them relative comfort. »

He also indicated that a seven-month reading clinic organized and monitored by the INGH had upgraded the reading skills of pupils.

He said this when the INGH marked the International Day of Education celebration in the community and launched a Back to School campaign in the District.

Mr. Godwin Amelor, North Tongu District Director of Education, in an speech, called for cooperation, partnership and funding of education in the area and make sure that no one was left behind.

« Strong leadership by Local Assembly and Education Directorate can help unlock the necessary investment to ensure quality learning opportunities for all children and adults. »
