(SLENA, 15th December, 2021). The third surge of COVID-19 vaccination started yesterday, Monday December 13. This is expected to run for 7 days.
According to a Facebook post from Spokesperson Solomon Jamiru “about 135,000 jabs were administered during Surge 1 (August 23-September 1), and 227,000 during Surge 2 (October 25-November 13).
Sierra Leone launched its COVID-19 vaccination on March 15 this year and commenced the national roll-out on March 22.
With around 800,000 persons 18+ with at least one dose (20% of the adult population), and still 5% of the total population fully vaccinated, this third surge will hopefully see the figures flip exponentially.”
Surge 3 will intensify community-to-community vaccination, and this will give entire households the chance to be covered.
